Downhill Ski Gear
Boots, poles and bindings
Basic ski equipment includes a pair of skis, ski bindings, ski boots and ski poles.
If you don't have your own skis many resorts have pro ski shops that can rent skis, gear and provide custom fittings.
On the slopes you're as warm as your clothes are. Ski clothing should consist of loose-fitting layers that keep you warm and dry like long underwear, a mid-weight fleece or a wool layer and a waterproof ski jacket and ski pants.
Avoid wearing cotton next to your skin, because it will absorb sweat, make you cold and will stay wet if you fall.
On your feet, wool or acrylic socks are better than cotton. You need only one pair as ski boots are designed to be warm.
Many skiers wear a ski mask or goggles to protect their face and eyes. At least wear sunglasses (and sunscreen) as the sun is very strong at high altitudes and when it is reflected off the snow.
Wear water-resistant gloves or mittens and a hat or ski helmet for protection against the elements.
