Cycling in British Columbia
Cycling from sea to mountain top
British Columbia mountain biking makes a great vacation. British Columbia's world-famous ski hills become a downhill bike riding paradise in summer. Bike in view of the ocean on the Gulf Islands or follow old logging roads and mining trails converted for biking on the mainland. There are literally hundreds of trails and roads to bike, enjoying the tranquil nature and mild climate of this province.
Popular mountain biking destinations include the Kettle Valley Railway, the Lower Fraser River Valley, Kootenay National Park and Yoho National Park. Burnaby Mountain and the Sea to Sky Highway are beautiful and link Vancouver to Whistler through stunning coastal mountain scenery. The Canal Flats area offers two top-notch trail systems, Top of the World and Trail of Two Rivers.
Vancouver Island is a popular biking tour destination. You can even take a ferry to some of the Gulf Islands for shorter cycling trips. British Columbia has no shortage of longer biking trails to challenge the road cyclist and mountain biker alike. Biking in Victoria is also a great option. Bike to Glen Lake on the Galloping Goose Railroad Trail or try the Ultimate Abyss further north in Nanaimo.
