Types of Bicycles

Road bikes are lightweight, agile and fast. Road bikes are also usually made of aluminum with dropped handlebars and narrow tires.

Hybrid bikes are versatile and adjustable. They have a more upright, comfortable riding position. Though slower than road bikes, hybrids are lighter and usually faster than mountain bikes and are great for the recreational rider.

Mountain bikes are very strong and stable. Mountain bikes can be equipped with either road or off-road tires for bike trails.

Tandems are for two riders. They are great for roads and long rides, though they are not suitable for every adventure.

Trailers can hold one or two children and generally have pockets for storage, a rain cover and a sunscreen.

Renting a bike is an option for your tour. There are a variety of outfitters offering day and longer rentals of road bicycles, road racing bikes, hybrid bikes, mountain bikes, tandem and recumbent bikes and trailers for children.

Rented bikes often will come with a rear rack, luggage bag, water bottle, repair kit, spare inner tube, pump, optional toe clips and a helmet.
