Bird Watching Gear

The things you need to spot the birds

Bird watching does not require a lot of equipment. Compared to other outdoor activities, the amount of equipment required to watch birds is minimal. Birding binoculars, a field guide, notebook, pen and a hat should cover it! Bird books or field guides are books loaded with information about birds. It's the next best thing to having an expert birder at your side. It describes and shows pictures of birds and offers details of each bird to look for. Some guides are general; others are specific to a particular region.

Bird watchers often bring a notebook to record what they see. A notebook also encourages birders to observe birds carefully. A birding vest is very useful for holding your gear, as well as other items such as lip balm and insect repellent.

A hat should be worn that will shade your eyes but not interfere with using your binoculars.
