British Columbia's extensive backcountry offers endless routes for backpacking. Backpacking parks that are popular include Glacier National Park, Kootenay National Park, Mount Revelstoke National Park and Yoho National Park. In Golden try the Alpine Loop or explore the Stanley Glacier or Dog Lake Trail in Radium Hot Springs. The little-trafficked Wells Gray Provincial Park offers long-distance backpacking trips in dramatic, remote wilderness Garibaldi Provincial Park is filled with towering peaks where you can hike across glaciers and climb peaks that offer spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean. BC's Sunshine Coast Trail offers 111 miles (180 km) of challenging hiking through sub-alpine vegetation and old-growth temperate rainforest. In Northern BC, hike into Mount Edziza Provincial Park where several trails offer one week or longer backpacking trips for experienced backcountry travelers.
Vancouver Island boasts challenging coastal treks, rich in wildlife and rugged beauty. The Island is a great place to explore cliffs, caves and rainforest. On the Pacific Coast of the island, the West Coast Trail is nearly 50 miles (80 km) long and offers hiking along beaches and rocky headlands with some challenging sections.
